There are things that some people just don’t or can’t understand and NOT having a thyroid is definitely one of them. Most doctors don’t even understand, so it’s kind of hard to expect our friends and family to comprehend our struggles and even our achievements. Support is so very important when you have a condition that isn’t well understood by the medical profession.
Well thank goodness for the internet, because how else could you meet another 53 year old woman, in another country, suffering with the same medical condition that you have? We first connected in a thyroid Facebook group and quickly realized that we shared a lot of similarities, in our symptoms and life in general. We are both no thyroid survivors and walking this path together has changed our trajectory in this crazy life.
Our vision for this project has been a long time in the making. We’ve both imagined it for awhile now and often discussed it and put it in the “some day” column of life. Most recently after researching the importance of TSH in people without a thyroid, and getting very discouraged with the lack of information available, we decided that the time was now to start chronicling our experiences and hopefully offering support and information to other people without thyroids. It really is a condition that has been forgotten in most research and clinical studies.
We are not doctors, thyroid experts or affiliated with any company or clinic. We aren’t selling or promoting anything. We are two middle aged women that have been living the no thyroid life for a long time and we have learned quite a bit along the way and continue to learn and be our own health advocates to insure the best possible care for our condition.
Our platform is NOT where you will find internet myths about dosing or medications. We will also not be able to look into our crystal ball and tell you what combo will work best for you based on a crazy meme about optimal levels. Not because we wouldn’t love to do that for you, but because it really is all unique to everyone. Unfortunately yes, you will find many groups online that have a “formula” so to speak that they claim will work for everyone. Trust us, we’ve tried everything and if it were that easy, we’d all be “optimal”.
We understand that it is unfair, exhausting and sometimes feels like a losing battle fighting for a normal life after thyroid loss. Our hope is that here on our site, you will find support, gain knowledge from our experiences, and learn to be your own health care advocate within a supportive community of people without a thyroid.
Peace and Love ,
Kathy and Darcey
